Tsunami clue to ‘Atlantis’ found
A geologist has discovered that a submerged island could be the source of the Atlantis myth when it was hit by a large earthquake and tsunami 12,000 years ago.

French geologist and prehistorian Jacques Collina-Girard presented research in the Proceedings of the French Academy of Sciences suggesting that Atlantis was a small mid-channel island sitting in what is now the Strait of Gibraltar.
Atlantis ‘obviously near Gibraltar’
Jacques Collina-Girard, from the University of the Mediterranean in Aix-en-Provence, has evidence that Atlantis was sited on an island close to the Strait of Gibraltar and which vanished beneath the waves about 11,000 years ago.
